(See this name change at our local name

In Greek, 'kyria' translates to "lord" and 'kakos' to "bad" making this
surname translate to "bad lord" - thus becoming another Mystery to resolve. (If our surname began as a Christian appellation, and the ancient 'KA' was
equivalent to our modern 'NOT!', then it could have meant a person descended
from the pre-Christian family who wanted to publicly identify themselves as
Christian NOT! Or as a member of the ancient pre-Christian family and
not one of those non-pre-Christians who took the name for themselves and,
thereby, became confused with the ancient family of the same name.)

... Greek kyriake,
meaning "belonging to the Lord (kyrios),"
from which the English word "church" is derived.
(Ruben James
Ciriacks' conjecture: From the perspective of placing oneself
in the first century, immediately after the birth of Christianity, a
personal meaning would lean toward a humanistic "dedicated
to" interpretation. On the other hand, observers of the nascent
Christian organization might have considered those dedicated adherents to
be "slaves" to the new religion - meaning that the term kyriake could have become more popular because it
satisfied the mindset of various disparate individuals of the time.
In any case, individuals with the name or title, KYRIAKE and its closely spelled variations, were among the
earliest adherents to Christianity.)

... Judah, the last "Jewish Christian or Ebionite" bishop, outlived the Bar Kochba rebellion, (132-135 C.E.) until the eleventh year of the reign of Antoniunus Pius. The designation appended to his name, "Kuriakos" (kyriakos), indicates that Bishop Judah was descended from the family of Jesus. Eusebius reports that the Desposyni [the Master's relatives], all descendants of Jesus, survived to become leaders of various "Christian" churches, according to a strict dynastic succession. ...
(The posting should probably read "descendents of Jesus' family".)See KYRIAKON and KYRIAKOU; an image of St. Kyriakos the Great was found here.

Feb. 16, 2009: This is probably the most ancient, accurate and widespread form of the Greek family name that appears throughout the world and in the Americas. Eventual contacts with prominent families in Greece, such as that of Minos of the "KYRIAKOU Group", ANT-1, TSIKLITIRIA, SEGAS, HOC and various other organizations might lead to some genealogy already extant that goes back a couple thousand years or more. 1982: The closing credits for the OUTSTANDING movie "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan - King of the Apes" lists Peter Kyriakou playing Tarzan at age one. |
